Cooperative Des Cafeiculteurs “Tuungane”

The Tuungane Coffee Growers’ Cooperative (COCAT) was created in 2012 by 1,532 women coffee growers involved in the coffee sector in the Uvira Territory of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

This is the initiative of a small group of coffee producers led by Madame Chantal BINWA. The thinking was to find collective solutions to get women out of precariousness through sustainable and competitive coffee growing on the global market. They were supported by the Association of Women for the Promotion and Endogenous Development (local Congolese NGO) at the very beginning.

The idea was to produce, by women, a special coffee of exceptional quality certified organic. COCAT is 100% feminine.
