In 2018, Elie embarked on a research project that brought her back home to Ghana and led her to re-discover a nut, the tropical almond, locally known as Abrofo-n’katie or Blofo Nkati3. The nut that she, like many other kids, used to play with – cracking open the fleshy fruit with a stone and devouring the delicious kernel inside – was completely being overlooked. She wanted to turn the nut into the world’s first tropical almond milk and other food products. Elie teamed up with her childhood friend Kiki.
Talmond’s mission is to innovate with the neglected tropical almond and other under-utilised crops, local to Ghana and West Africa, transforming them into environmentally sustainable, ethical, nutritious and delicious plant-based products.
